What Makes a Good Boss?

I have had some pretty bad managers in my time and so was interested to read this article on what makes a good manager. The points of view come mostly from HR professionals, so it would be interesting to hear the views from people on the ground as to what you think makes a good manager. Does your manager have to tell good jokes? Perhaps take you out to celebrate successes? Everyone is different so let us know your thoughts.

I have always followed managers who I feel I could learn from. Follow your instincts. Seek these people out and stick with them. As they move up an organisation so will you.

A good manager is one that doesn't treat you like a child or act as a school teacher. They trust you too get your work done to a high standard and don't look over your shoulder the whole time. By letting people make their own mistakes they will learn and progress and ultimately be more productive.
